YUJIKATO PROFILE

Yuji Kato was born on January 20 of 1951 in Japan, as the oldest son of a man from Seattle and a woman whose ancestry includes Samurai General. From the age of 3, his favorite toy was a crayon. In his childhood, he was always scrawling on everything on hand – paper, walls, whatever was available.

During his grade-school and junior high-school days, he received many awards for his art woks. Majoring in, but not limited to any particular field, he engrossed himself in various forms of art including sculpture, ceramic art, design, ink-painting (sumi-e), oil, water-color, abstract and miniature painting.

Gradually, he became enchanted the beauty of flowers and found a technique to draw them more attractively than they are. Since then, focusing on flowers, he has been working as a water-color artist, producing his current unique graceful and healing paintings.

Flowers drawn by Yuji really produce a distinctive and uncanny atmosphere with an almost healing energy. Given wonderful happiness to each viewer, his supporters are increasing day by day. His straight-out philosophy is deeply built on a foundation of magical charm.

Yuji never paints just to sell his works. He never paints unless he feels a wave calling from the flower, and when he is inclined to paint. In this way, he is really determined not to compromise his artistic integrity.

As if driven by some unseen force, he produces such appealing paintings that many are moved to tears just looking.

Moreover another characteristic of his art work is the title and words he attaches to each painting. Without exception, immediately after finishing each painting, words and a title come up in his mind. Each painting has its own poem composed by Yuji himself. He definitely spares no pains in bringing his prints to completion. With effort to include healing energy, he adds the final touch to each limited print.

With that in mind, completed each art work is certainly a unique piece. With a delicate and subtle touch to each print, the art work really attracts the excitement of collectors. And attachment just like that which one would have for a pet is not uncommon.

According to Yuji, when his signature and seal are put on a painting, the heart of the painting starts to beat. As all his works are brought forth in this way, no two paintings are completely alike in the world. As a healing flower water-color artist, he continues to create art work with the power to bring happiness and success.

On March 20th 2004, Yuji accepted a declaration of international friendship between Japan and US from Honolulu city, Hawaii. At the same time, he was honored by having that day named “YUJI KATO DAY”.
